Our beginnings

The Cochrane Foundation was started in 1993 by visionaries Neil Harvie, Ray Zell and Bob Aylesworth. They wanted a means to supporting important community ideals related to arts and culture, environment, youth, education, health, recreation and more. They created a permanent endowment fund where individual donations would be pooled. The interest income generated would be made available annually in the form of community grants. This way they knew we all could give, to all groups, forever. To date, we have granted $899,000 back to Cochrane and area to over 91 charitable local organizations. Cochrane continues to be a community of visionaries.
